In September 1966, the Executive Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers established a nationwide Trust Fund known as the I.A.M. National Health and Welfare Plan. In October 1979, the Plan became the National IAM Benefit Trust Fund.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide health and welfare benefits to participants and their families. The Fund offers multiple medical, dental and vision plans (medical plans include prescription drug coverage), as well as short-term disability plans and life and accidental death and dismemberment plans.
Benefit Trust Fund Plans are available nationwide.
The Fund Office is located and overall operations are administered in Washington, DC.
